Sprout

A semi-secret project – well, not anymore I guess… I’m planning on assembling a second portfolio in a more dedicated children’s illustration style. Certainly not abandoning the style I have, not by a long shot, just taking this as a chance to play with some things I don’t get to when I do things my usual way. Here’s the first finished piece.

Also, I’ve finally got around to setting up an Etsy Shop. If there’s anything you’d like to see in there as a print (or a bookmark; I’m likely adding those in the next week or two) let me know, and it shall be done.

Aside from that, I’m still posting my dailies. I wish I had more to show here – I recently finished a couple of magazine illustrations that I’m really proud of, but I can’t put them up here until they go to print. So look for those next month – hopefully I’ll have more kiddie drawings to show before then! Maybe even more work!

Thinspiration

A new portfolio piece, inspired by an episode of Intervention I saw a while back, focused on a pair of anorexic twins.

Briarpatch: Blanket Condemnations

Another illustration for Briarpatch magazine, for an article about “the politics of the burqa”. I did two versions, a greyscale one for print and a colour one for the website:

…the colour one was kind of an experiment, as it was working off the already-finished greyscale; something I’d never done before for a colour image, at least in this style. A challenging article to illustrate; thanks to Dave Mitchell for another interesting opportunity!

Also! I’ve finished another month over at my daily artblog, so check it out for my new theme, myths and monsters!
